Payton takes over play-calling to help Nix sync with offense in contention window.

Sean Payton is taking over play-calling duties from offensive coordinator Davis Webb to help get Bo Nix and the offense back in sync. Payton stated "it makes sense to return duties to the experienced hand and try to get Bo Nix and the offense back in sync winning games" with a contention window open in 2026. Payton emphasized that Nix is "the by-product of a lot of things at that position" and that while the play-calling change may help, there are multiple factors affecting his performance. Payton will be directly in Nix's ear on gameday, saying "I'll be in Bo Nix's head. Otherwise you lose like four seconds."
