Covey ranks eighth in punt return average after Rams released him; now excels for Eagles.

Covey was released by the Rams after training camp 2025 despite outperforming Xavier Smith in preseason competition and is now one of the NFL's best punt returners for Philadelphia. Over 2025 regular season, Covey returned 11 punts for 124 yards (11.3 average) with one return longer than 20 yards, ranking eighth in punt return average across the NFL with two returns exceeding 20 yards. In a head-to-head matchup against the Rams, Covey returned three punts for 59 yards (19.7 average) with a long of 41 yards, demonstrating the Rams' mismanagement of special teams by letting him walk.
