Mahomes at career-high 33% play-action rate; scheme shift mirrors 2018 Hunt era.

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes is running a career-high 33% play-action percentage on passing plays this season, up from historical norms. The only other time Mahomes exceeded 30% as a starter was in 2018 when he played most of the season with second-year RB Kareem Hunt. This elevated play-action usage is enabled by the Chiefs' increased under-center snaps (40% vs. 18% in 2025) and reflects offensive scheme changes.
