Yahoo Sports NFL on Fernando Mendoza

Mendoza's first start timeline depends on Raiders' next two games.

Rookie appeared in the Patriots blowout after the game got out of hand; Klint Kubiak called Kirk Cousins the starter during Monday's press conference, putting a brief halt to questions about when Mendoza will take over. However, if Las Vegas loses to Buffalo and continues to struggle, calls for Mendoza will intensify. The following week against the New York Jets feels like the sweet spot for his first start, unless the Raiders pull off an upset or two before that trip.
