Even after the whistle is blown and the play is so-called dead, defensive players are still running up to you trying to punch the ball out. And I don't know why … it's very annoying, especially when you're in your third day of pads or sixth day of pads in seven days or whatever there was (at training camp), and you're just getting … haymakered by linebackers and DBs down the field as you're trying to, like, finish the play.

Kelce embraces once-hated practice drill emphasizing ball security

Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce now embraces a practice drill he once loathed. During training camp, Kelce was frustrated by defensive players punching the ball out after the whistle on dead plays, calling it annoying and comparing it to being 'haymakered by linebackers and DBs down the field.' He demanded teammates replicate the aggressive approach in games or he would be upset.
