Thornton's absence opens big-play role for rookie Allen's development

Chiefs receiver Tyquan Thornton's absence creates a void in the receiver rotation that needs adjustment. Rookie receiver Allen could step into the big-play role that will be missing without Thornton, leveraging his route running and ball skills despite not having Thornton's linear speed. Allen caught 51 passes for 674 yards and an FBS-leading 13 touchdowns last season at Cincinnati, with six scores on 20-plus yard throws and 23% of his targets being deep throws. During preseason and training camp, Allen developed chemistry with Patrick Mahomes on difficult throws over the middle and on the sideline.
