STACKED’s take
Rookie Payton offers long-term upside; source advocates for immediate playing time.
Day 3 rookie QB from the 2026 NFL Draft who could eventually warrant playing time. The source makes a strong case for the Eagles to start Payton now, noting he "offered some intrigue in offseason practices and limited preseason action" and "can at least run around a bit." While Payton has a penchant for being overly aggressive (risking turnovers and growing pains), the source admires "how fearless he is." The source argues that if the Eagles concede 2026 isn't their season, they should play Payton and at minimum make him the backup behind McKee. Payton is positioned as a potential long-term factor for the team, whether as a backup or starter (more likely the former), contrasting with McKee's free-agent status after the season.
