Thornton out with dislocated ankle; was leading receiver with elite deep-ball production.

Thornton emerged as the Chiefs' leading receiver in the first month of the regular season but is now out for an extended period with a dislocated ankle. His loss is significant: he averaged over 18 yards downfield on targets (only two other NFL receivers with 15+ targets have comparable average depth of target), and Patrick Mahomes posted a 154.9 QB Rating when targeting him this season—nearly perfect passer rating territory (158.3). Thornton's deep targets opened up the entire offense underneath, making him a critical element to replace.
