Post-ACL tear, Garoppolo's play declined sharply; overthrew Sanders in Super Bowl loss.

After his ACL tear in Week 3 of 2018, Garoppolo's play deteriorated significantly. In the 2019 Super Bowl, despite a powerful offense with rookie Deebo Samuel and Emmanuel Sanders, Garoppolo threw only eight times in the NFC Championship Game, raising questions about whether the 49ers were winning despite him rather than because of him. In the Super Bowl itself, he overthrew Sanders on a crucial deep pass as the 49ers blew a 10-point lead. Post-injury, the source notes 'a statue would have made quicker movements,' indicating a marked decline in mobility and effectiveness.
