There have been even more calls to bench Kirk Cousins since last week... I still think the move is to roll with Cousins for now. However, if the Raiders lose this week... the conversation really heats up... throwing Mendoza behind an offensive line that has been shaky recently... At 3-3, the coaching staff can convince themselves that the team is still in playoff contention... the sweet spot is going to be Week 8 against the Jets, especially if the Raiders drop the next two games. At 3-4 with four straight losses, that would mean Cousins isn't keeping the playoff hopes alive, so Kubiak would have even more reason to make the change.

NeutralProjection

Benching pressure mounts; Week 8 vs. Jets is optimal change point.

Despite increased benching calls after Week 5 loss to Patriots (falling to 3-2), source recommends rolling with Cousins for now. However, if Raiders lose to Rams (falling to 3-3), benching conversation intensifies. Optimal timing for potential replacement (Mendoza) is Week 8 against Jets, especially if Raiders drop next two games and fall to 3-4 with four straight losses; at that point, Cousins would no longer be keeping playoff hopes alive, giving Kubiak stronger justification for the change. Offensive line concerns make immediate Mendoza insertion risky against Rams pass rush.
