McCarthy entered Sunday's game with the Giants trailing 24 points and 11:25 remaining. After an initial interception, he threw for 243 yards in less than a quarter of action, leading a comeback that gave the Giants a chance to win with :12 left. Head coach John Harbaugh praised his performance: "I thought he came in there and did a heck of a job given the circumstances, and kind of desperation time... made some plays and got us back, gives us a chance to win the game." Eighty-one percent of 751 fans polled believe McCarthy should replace Jameis Winston as the starter against Houston this Sunday, though Harbaugh has not yet committed to the change.
