ArticleFalcons sign QB Andy Dalton and release Cooper Rush
From the article
Whether this is the Falcons covering themselves with Michael Penix Jr. getting banged up repeatedly and not wanting to chance Rush getting back into a game in case of a rash of injuries that takes down Penix and backup Tua Tagovailoa, or whether they view Dalton as a possible QB2 over Tua remains to be seen.

NeutralRole
Tagovailoa's backup role may be challenged by newly signed Andy Dalton.
Tagovailoa is the backup QB behind Michael Penix Jr.; the Falcons signed Andy Dalton, and it remains unclear whether Dalton will compete with Tagovailoa for the QB2 role or serve purely as third-string insurance behind Penix.
