Bleeding Green Nation on Dameon Pierce

Pierce forced to account for two defenders on opening play; protection breakdown.

Running back asked to account for two defenders in the protection scheme on the opening play, illustrating a protection breakdown. The source states: 'the protection ends up asking Dameon Pierce to account for two defenders.' On the very first play of the game, the Eagles line up under center, run play action, and leave a defender unblocked; the Panthers have four potential blitzers to their left, and Pierce is forced into an impossible protection assignment. This is unacceptable given the staff had all week to prepare the opening play.
