Hogs Haven on Jayden Daniels
From the article
On fourth-and-2 from the 49ers' 13-yard line early in the second quarter of what became a 49ers' 23-17 win, Washington coach Dan Quinn decided to go for it. Running back Rachaad White was flagged for an illegal shift, which would have negated a successful play. But before that, Daniels scrambled right to bide more time — and then threw the ball out of bounds, looking as if he wanted to avoid a sack.
STACKED’s take
Daniels' late-game execution errors and intentional grounding on fourth down cost Commanders game-winning chances.
Daniels showed Jekyll-and-Hyde play in the Commanders' 23-17 loss to the 49ers, excelling in the second half (22 of 30, 212 yards, 2 TDs, 114.9 rating) but committing critical execution errors in game-winning drive situations. On fourth-and-8 late in the game, he let the play clock run down and burned a timeout; on a subsequent drive at San Francisco's 28-yard line, he intentionally grounded the ball to avoid a sack on fourth down—a major mistake that left only a hail Mary attempt. ESPN's Troy Aikman criticized the fourth-down throw-away: "You don't throw (the) ball away on fourth down. You gotta at least give your receiver an opportunity." Daniels acknowledged the need to execute better, but the pattern of high-leverage mistakes mirrors his Week 5 brain fart against the Giants and raises concerns about his decision-making under pressure.
