Mahomes embracing under-center role; 24 snaps per game vs. 11.5 last season.
Patrick Mahomes has evolved from a primarily shotgun-based offense to incorporating significant under-center looks. The Chiefs ran 121 under-center plays this season (averaging roughly 24 snaps per game), up from 11.5 per game in 2025. Mahomes told the coaching staff he liked under-center plays and wanted to mix them in. Andy Reid noted that Mahomes 'felt really easy with that' and 'it's worked out well,' particularly with the running back situation and the return of offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy.
