Jaxson Dart was lost for the season with a knee injury, McCarthy, though, closer approximates Dart's skill set than the immobile, 32-year-old Winston. The Giants spent the offseason building an offense that would incorporate Dart's running ability.

Dart out for season with knee injury; Giants' running-QB scheme now shifts to McCarthy.

Dart lost for the season with a knee injury, ending his tenure as the Giants' starting quarterback. The Giants had spent the offseason building an offense specifically to incorporate Dart's running ability, but that scheme element was lost when Winston took over. McCarthy's arrival partially restores access to that playbook design.
