Carter named Lions' punt and kick returner after Kennedy's season-ending injury.
The Lions have signed DeAndre Carter to replace Tom Kennedy as their primary punt and kick returner following Kennedy's season-ending injury against Arizona. Special teams coordinator Dave Fipp indicated the role is not completely open, with Carter expected to step in for both punt and kickoff returns alongside Jacob Saylors. Carter brings 155 career punt returns for 1,508 yards (9.7 average) and 144 kickoff returns for 3,399 yards (23.6 average) since entering the league in 2015, significantly more experience than other candidates like Lucky Jackson. Fipp praised Carter's resilience, competitiveness, and ability to catch the ball and get downfield, noting he has always respected Carter's game since their time together with the Eagles.
