STACKED’s take
A.J. Brown: 6 catches on 16 targets, 75 yards in two games; underperforming offseason acquisition role.
A.J. Brown has caught just six passes on 16 targets for 75 yards across the last two games (Weeks 6–7 vs. Jets and Bears), a significant underperformance for the big-ticket offseason acquisition brought in to elevate Drake Maye and the Patriots' passing offense. Against the Bears specifically, he had a deep ball broken up at the catch point (potential DPI), two incomplete targets, but did record catches of 18, 16, and 14 yards—his best output as a Patriot to date. Brown attributes the slow start partly to limited practice reps (four non-walkthrough practices since return from high ankle sprain) and the team's inability to force targets in difficult game flow, though he acknowledges he must convert his opportunities at a higher rate.
