A.J. Brown turned in his best game as a Patriot on Thursday night, and it was still well below the level the team expected when it traded for him this offseason. All told this season, Brown has nine catches for 101 yards in about 10 quarters of work.

Brown has dramatically underperformed expectations since joining the Patriots; in three games (about 10 quarters of work), he has nine catches for 101 yards, well below the WR1 production the team anticipated when trading a 2028 first-round pick and 2027 fifth-rounder for him. His 2025 season with the Eagles showed early warning signs—yards per route run of 2.09 (career low), YAC per reception of 3.4 (career low), and yards per target of 8.29 (second-lowest career)—and his 2026 performance in New England is even more diminished: 1.22 yards per route run (career low), 2.6 YAC per reception (career low).
