Ewers backup to Lawrence; no game action yet, but trade could look bad if he develops.

Ewers was traded to Jacksonville in August 2026 for a 2028 sixth-round pick. He remains on his rookie contract and is not scheduled to become a free agent until 2029. He currently serves as Trevor Lawrence's backup and, like most backup quarterbacks, hasn't seen meaningful game action. The source notes that if Ewers eventually develops into a legitimate NFL starter, Miami may look back on this trade with regret, but for now it qualifies as good business.
