STACKED’s take
McCarthy's efficient game management (20-28, 272 yards) signals redemption arc potential.
J.J. McCarthy marched the Giants offense into Houston and dismantled the defense without it looking particularly difficult. He finished 20-for-28 with 272 yards, 0 TDs, and 0 INTs. McCarthy managed the game effectively—didn't overextend and controlled play to allow the defense and run game to carry them to a 27-21 OT victory. He demonstrated the exact skill set a John Harbaugh quarterback needs: managing what he could and not forcing plays. However, he still needs development in deep middle-field throws and threading the ball against high safety coverage; he only attempted four passes in the middle third of the field with one completion for 10+ yards. Despite limitations, the win was significant and helps cement the Giants as a team to watch in the NFC East.
