STACKED’s take
Shanahan's first true X receiver since Julio Jones; Achilles tendinitis is worrisome.
Mike Evans is a critical piece for the 49ers offense despite injury concerns. Dan Graciano noted that Evans' ability to win contested catches, particularly in the red zone, provides an element the 49ers otherwise lack. Kyle Shanahan views Evans as the first true X receiver he's had since Julio Jones, treating him as an all-in acquisition. When healthy, Evans is a differencemaker for the offense and quarterback, but he has been beat up all year and was unavailable for the Falcons game. Achilles tendinitis is a significant concern given Christian McCaffrey's injury history with the same issue; Evans may get healthier by the bye week but probably won't be fully healthy.
