Yahoo Sports NFL on Ja'Corey Brooks
From the article
Brooks was a Cinderella story of the 2025 pre-season... he was elevated for the Week 6 game against Chicago, but was not targeted in 6 offensive snaps. He suffered a season-ending injury in November... Man, I wasted a lot of pixels on a guy that the Commanders cut before training camp even began!
STACKED’s take
Brooks cut before 2026 training camp after strong 2025 preseason; no other team signed him.
Brooks is a 24-year-old 6'3", 195 lbs undrafted receiver who was a Cinderella story in 2025 preseason, leading the Commanders in receptions through three games and earning a practice squad spot; he was elevated for Week 6 against Chicago but received no targets in 6 snaps and suffered a season-ending injury in November. He went undrafted despite a stellar Louisville senior season because he lacks the speed and crisp route running to separate consistently, leading to high contested targets, though he excels at hauling them in. On a team with 4 WR roster locks and notably short of big receivers, Brooks has a chance to stick as the last depth chart guy if he shows promise in preseason; worst-case is another practice squad season or late-season injury replacement role. UPDATE: Brooks was cut before training camp even began in 2026 and was not signed by any other team, suggesting unknown concerns despite his preseason promise.
