Yahoo Sports NFL on Jaxon Smith-Njigba

Smith-Njigba's elite middle-field ability and slant routes exploited Chiefs' secondary.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba, described as the best receiver in the NFL, was heavily targeted by Sam Darnold against the Chiefs' secondary. He was bracketed in Cover 1 with single-high safety help, covered one-on-one by Mansoor Delane on two-way go routes along the sideline, and ran slants against L'Jarius Sneed in man coverage. Smith-Njigba's elite ability in the middle of the field and his skill getting inside positioning on slants made him a consistent threat; the source notes most cornerbacks get beat on two-way go routes against him.
