I should have left more room open for him to improve as a player going into his second year. I expected improvement, I didn't expect this much of an improvement that we're seeing right now. I was projecting the Packers to pass a lot more this season, but I never played into it through Matthew Golden, and that was a big mistake.

Golden's year-two leap and Packers passing volume increase were underestimated.

The source was at market consensus on Matthew Golden as a prospect, acknowledging his route-running ability and athleticism (fast 40 time) but concerned about his college production profile translating to the NFL. Golden had a rough rookie season with only a few plays away from being bigger, and the source was not confident he would make a big jump in year two despite being projected as an every-down player once the Packers cleared out their wide receiver depth chart. The source also liked Jaden Reed and Christian Watson, making it harder to project Golden's large step forward. However, Golden made a significant leap in year two. The source's miss was twofold: underestimating his improvement trajectory as a second-year player and, critically, not applying his own projection that the Packers would pass significantly more this season through Golden, despite writing and talking about increased Packers passing volume often.
