It seems inconceivable that a running back drafted sixth overall in 2025 would be relegated to a passing-down role less than halfway through his second NFL season, but that appears to be the fate of the Raiders' Ashton Jeanty. Averaging 3.1 yards per carry going into Week 8, Jeanty was replaced by rookie fourth-round pick Mike Washington Jr. on early downs.

Jeanty relegated to passing-down role; 3.1 YPC entering Week 8 before losing early-down carries.

The Raiders' sixth-overall 2025 draft pick has been relegated to a passing-down role less than halfway through his second NFL season, averaging just 3.1 yards per carry entering Week 8 before being replaced by rookie Mike Washington Jr. on early downs. Jeanty retains pass-catching upside and will continue to be used in that role, but his early-down rushing volume has been usurped. The source notes it's possible Jeanty returns to a workhorse role if he shows improvement or if Washington fails, but his role is currently diminished.
