McCaffrey's hamstring strain reported as minor, but Shanahan's injury history warrants caution.

The 49ers' star running back strained his hamstring in Week 7 and briefly left the Week 7 loss to the Falcons. Reporting has been optimistic about the injury, suggesting it's minor and McCaffrey should be ready for the Week 9 matchup against the Raiders after San Francisco's Week 8 bye. However, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan has a history of downplaying injuries; in late summer 2024, Shanahan expressed little public concern about what was described as calf tightness but turned out to be Achilles tendinitis in both feet, leading to McCaffrey's injured reserve placement and missing the first game until November.
