Cousins' bridge role enables Mendoza development; Raiders 4-4 with Cousins keeping team competitive.

Raiders owner Mark Davis credited Kirk Cousins as a crucial bridge option that allows the team to avoid the pressure of starting No. 1 pick Fernando Mendoza immediately. With the Raiders at 4-4 through eight games, Cousins has kept the team in contention while providing Mendoza time to develop and learn the speed and intricacies of professional football without the developmental limitations that come from being fast-tracked onto the field.
