Yahoo Sports NFL on Jayden Daniels

Daniels shifting to under-center formations in new aggressive, balanced offense.

The Commanders' new offensive coordinator David Blough has implemented a significant scheme change: Daniels now works under center more frequently instead of operating almost exclusively from the shotgun formation. Blough's vision is an 'aggressive, balanced attack' that opens up different run game schemes, play actions, and keepers while getting Daniels on the perimeter in different ways. The system draws from Ben Johnson's heavy use of play action, multiple tight end sets, outside zone run concepts, and pre-snap motion. This requires Daniels to get comfortable relaying lengthy play calls and quickly reading the defense to make checks at the line of scrimmage.
