Stroud did not have to play at an All-Pro or Pro Bowl level the past two seasons while the Texans defense was arguably the best in the league from 2024-2025. This year, with the defense taking some steps back, he's had to carry the load a bit more and that's somewhat worked out after a rough start. The Texans are the NFL's 7th-ranked passing offense.

Stroud's increased load has worked after rough start; 7th-ranked passing offense primed after bye prep.
Stroud has been forced to carry a heavier offensive load this season after the Texans defense declined from its elite 2024-2025 form. The Texans rank 7th in passing offense (driven by a 29th-ranked run game averaging 84.7 yards per game), and Stroud has responded after a rough start by throwing for at least 260 yards in Weeks Four through Six, including two games over 300 yards. He threw only 153 yards in the loss to the Giants before the bye, but with two weeks of preparation the source expects the Texans to be ready to roll against the Chargers' 7th-ranked pass defense.
