Acquired via trade as the replacement for Jared Goff after McVay lost confidence in Goff's ability to elevate the offense. The Rams had to attach multiple first-round picks to upgrade to Stafford, making the trade expensive in draft capital. While the Stafford trade ultimately won the Rams a Super Bowl, it was a direct consequence of the earlier Goff extension mistake.
