Williams has taken his game to another level in training camp, with his next developmental step being contested catches. He elevated between Ennis Rakestraw and Chuck Clark on Day 1, made catches in traffic on Day 2, and on Friday beat Rakestraw in a one-on-one rep by hitting the brakes and elevating over the 5-foot-11 corner despite Rakestraw being all over him. In team activities, he caught two passes in traffic: a 7-yard catch with Rock Ya-Sin in close pursuit and a 20-yard deep shot with Ya-Sin all over him that put Detroit in field-goal position. Campbell praised his route definition, weight dropping, playing strong, and ball-plucking ability, saying "the sky's the limit" with his ability.
