ESPN NFL on Patrick Mahomes
From the article
A trend to watch throughout camp is how often the Chiefs have quarterback Patrick Mahomes operate the offense from under center... But during Thursday's practice, Mahomes was under center more than half of the time during the first team period -- 11-on-11 reps -- against the first-team defense.
STACKED’s take
Mahomes operating under center more frequently; mobility improving post-knee rehab.
The Chiefs are experimenting with increased under-center formations with Mahomes, a notable shift from last season when he operated from shotgun in 80.6% of snaps (third-most in NFL). During Thursday's practice, Mahomes was under center more than half the time during first-team 11-on-11 reps, allowing coach Andy Reid to evaluate his play-action execution and running back Kenneth Walker III's between-the-tackles running. Mahomes demonstrated improved mobility during individual periods, rolling left and right before throwing downfield while continuing to rehab from his left knee injury. He is expected to be fully operational with the projected starting offense beginning Wednesday's full-team session.
