Yahoo Sports NFL on Trent Sherfield
From the article
Signing a receiver like Trent Sherfield isn't a move meant to solidify the top end of the receiver room... Sherfield's role isn't to replicate what someone like Stefon Diggs meant to Buffalo's receiver room; instead, it's meant to replicate what Tyrell Shavers meant to that same group.
STACKED’s take
Sherfield returns to Bills as special-teams sixth receiver competing for final roster spot.
Sherfield signed a one-year veteran minimum deal ($1.3M) with Buffalo after a 2025 stint with Denver (3 catches, 21 yards in 10 games) and time on the Cardinals and Patriots practice squads. He is healthy and participating in offseason work as both a receiver and special teams gunner. His role with Buffalo is not to replicate Stefon Diggs but rather to fill a sixth-receiver spot in a special-teams-heavy capacity, similar to the role Tyrell Shavers played in 2025. Sherfield faces competition from Mecole Hardman Jr. and Jalen Virgil for the final roster spot; while those veterans offer limited receiving ability, Sherfield may be the best pass-catcher of that trio at this stage of their careers.
