Hyatt, the Giants' third-round pick in 2023, has largely failed to live up to expectations despite displaying elite speed. In his rookie season, he caught 23 of 40 targets for 373 scoreless yards on 557 offensive snaps (57.5% catch rate) with four drops and an average of 16.2 yards per catch. He was often used as a 'sacrificial receiver'—tasked with vertical routes to threaten the defense but rarely in the read progression. However, his ability to stretch the field adds a dynamic element the Giants desperately needed. Combined with Darius Slayton, the two speed options can maximize two-man route concepts off play action (Yankee, Mills, etc.). The Giants incorporated simple Air Raid concepts in the preseason that appeared later in the season (3×1 lone drag route to Hyatt). At 22 years old, Hyatt is still developing as a route runner; uncovering against zone and quarterback synchronization are areas for improvement. His 14.8% drop rate was not ideal, but his ability to track, concentrate, adjust, and secure the ball showed promise on tape. Better protection and a quarterback willing to throw downfield could unlock his explosiveness.
