Jaguars drafted Boerkircher at No. 56 overall to serve as a complementary tight end alongside Brenton Strange in 12 and 13 personnel packages. Head coach Liam Coen is scaling back jumbo packages in favor of multiple tight end looks, and Boerkircher is expected to earn a Week 1 role if he can hold up as a blocker. Coen's goal is to use Boerkircher to take wear and tear off Strange by allowing Strange to split out or match up on linebackers and safeties rather than one-on-one against edge rushers like Travon Walker and Josh Hines-Allen.
