Drafted 56th overall by Jacksonville in 2026, Boerkircher is expected to earn a Week 1 role as a complementary tight end alongside Brenton Strange in the Jaguars' multi-tight-end scheme. Head coach Liam Coen is implementing 12 and 13 personnel packages (two and three tight ends) to replace jumbo packages used in 2025, and Boerkircher's primary value will be as a blocker to reduce wear on Strange and allow him to split out against linebackers and safeties rather than edge rushers. Coen stated at OTAs: "we needed some help there. Being able to provide Strange an option to go maybe split out or go block other people that maybe keep him out of some of those one-on-one big situations, I think that's going to help us tremendously."
