he would have seen the cornerback who was covering Sarratt slip to create an opportunity for a big play... Sarratt wide open for an easy first down on the drag route. However, Mendoza doesn't recognize it... he didn't see it or make that throw, either

STACKED’s take

Negative signalRole

Mendoza missed open receivers and failed to progress reads; wasn't seeing field clearly.

Mendoza missed multiple open receivers and failed to progress through his reads effectively. Against Cover 1 with six-man pressure, he forced a throw to Omar Cooper Jr. instead of recognizing that Elijah Sarratt had slipped to create a big-play opportunity. On third-and-seven, he looked for a big play instead of hitting Elijah Sarratt wide open on a drag route for an easy first down, or checking down to the running back. Later on a bootleg, he missed a receiver winning on a corner route at the top of the screen and was late on a throw to Charlie Becker on the drag route after pivoting toward the line of scrimmage.
