Again, nothing is open with Ohio State doing an excellent job in man coverage, on top of having one safety come off the deep over route from the slot receiver to wall off the dig route from the outside. Mendoza does show a good internal clock, as he starts to try and escape the pocket before the defensive end wins around the edge. However, instead of stepping up and taking advantage of the lane outside of the guard, he runs into pressure. That's likely because he doesn't have a feel for where the defensive end is.

Mendoza's pressure awareness and feel for the pocket need development.

Mendoza's feel for pressure was a significant issue on a second-quarter sack against Ohio State. Despite showing a good internal clock and attempting to escape the pocket before the defensive end won around the edge, he ran into pressure instead of stepping up and taking advantage of an open lane outside the guard. This suggests he lacks awareness of where the defensive end is positioned, forcing him into an escape-artist role that exposed his lateral movement limitations.
