What's encouraging about Mendoza's pocket management moving forward is that he can be effective at evading pressure when it isn't coming from the blind side and is decent at making off-script plays. He has a few tricks to help with the latter, the best being that he's really good at recognizing when defensive backs don't plaster and come off their man on scramble drills.

Mendoza is effective at evading pressure when it isn't coming from the blind side and is decent at making off-script plays. He excels at recognizing when defensive backs don't plaster and come off their man on scramble drills. Against Ohio State's Tampa 2 look, he bailed out of the pocket in the proper direction, recognized the defense had no edge containment since both linebackers dropped in coverage, scrambled toward the wide side, and executed a jump pass to Becker for a third-down conversion after seeing the nickelback come downhill.
