ArticleLas Vegas Raiders mailbag: Will Klint Kubiak, Rob Leonard reel in Maxx Crosby?
From the article
Ian Thomas is the first player who comes to mind. I was kind of surprised the new regime brought him back. He has a reputation of being a blocking tight end, but he wasn't that good of a run blocker last year. At this point, we know what type of player the eight-year veteran is in the league. If that's just as a third tight end, what's the point of keeping a 30-year-old role player in a rebuilding year when Runyon (25) could get a shot at that job?

30-year-old Thomas likely makes roster despite poor blocking and rebuilding timeline.
30-year-old TE expected to make the 53-man roster despite being a poor fit for a rebuilding year; brought back by new regime with reputation as a blocking tight end, but wasn't a good run blocker last season; source questions the logic of keeping an eight-year veteran role player when 25-year-old Carter Runyon could get the third tight end job, though acknowledges coaches favor veterans.
