Watson enters the 2026 season in the final year of his five-year fully guaranteed contract with the Browns. General manager Andrew Berry stated he would not rule out re-signing Watson if he plays well enough this fall, saying 'I wouldn't rule anything out in terms of the whole quarterback-of-the-future discussion. Ultimately, we're going to play the player who's the most productive on the field. I think Deshaun is only 30. There's no need to make any decisions about the future right now.' Owner Jimmy Haslam similarly declined to completely rule out Watson's future with the team, noting 'I think there are all kinds of possibilities out there' and that 'somebody might have a great year, and they're our quarterback forever.' Watson himself expressed openness to staying, stating 'I don't have any bad feelings toward Cleveland; I love Cleveland. Me and my wife have a house on the East Side; we were around all summer' and 'If the opportunity shows up, we'll see where it goes.'
