Cyrus Allen, a rookie with a lower-leg injury, is being managed on special teams. Chiefs special teams coordinator Dave Toub explained that all rookies start as four-phase special teams contributors until they establish themselves as starters on offense or defense, at which point the team pulls them back from multiple phases. This is standard protocol regardless of draft status.
