Star running back Jahmyr Gibbs missed multiple consecutive practices (at least five by Aug. 3) as a hold-in while seeking a new contract extension. Head coach Dan Campbell stated he is "not even sweating it" and expects the deal to get done, noting Gibbs completed a conditioning test but had "a little bit of a back" issue that Campbell said is "not severe." Gibbs remained in the building attending meetings and communicating with teammates including Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams, with no disruption to team chemistry.
