Kyler Murray is engaged in an open quarterback battle with J.J. McCarthy to determine the Vikings' Week 1 starter. Murray is much quieter than McCarthy and less familiar with his surroundings; whereas McCarthy might sprint 40 yards downfield to celebrate during practice, Murray is more likely to wait at the line of scrimmage for a fist-bump. As a veteran, Murray appears aware that everything he says publicly will be scrutinized for deeper meaning, and on the first day of camp, he did not directly answer a question about which Vikings players he worked out with during the summer break.
