Brady suffered a decisive defeat to the Cowboys on January 16, 2023, in what would be the final game of his career. He had never lost to the Cowboys in seven previous meetings, but Dallas dominated the Buccaneers 31-14 in Tampa. Brady was intercepted by Jayron Kearse in the red zone on second-and-goal when he attempted to throw the ball away in the back of the end zone; the interception was Brady's first in the red zone since 2019 and prevented Tampa Bay from changing momentum. Brady finally put Tampa Bay on the board late in the third quarter with a 30-yard touchdown pass to Julio Jones, but the Cowboys had already controlled the game at the line of scrimmage and prevented Brady from creating the type of comeback that defined his career.
