Yahoo Sports NFL on Luke Schoonmaker
From the article
Luke Schoonmaker's time may finally be running out for the Dallas Cowboys. The second-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft never really challenged Jake Ferguson for the starting tight end job as was hoped, nor has he shown much improvement thus far in his career.
STACKED’s take
Schoonmaker's roster spot in jeopardy as UDFAs Spann-Ford and Trigg surpass him on depth chart.
The 2023 second-round pick is on the roster bubble entering his contract year, having failed to challenge Jake Ferguson for the starting tight end job or show meaningful improvement since entering the league. He played 391 offensive snaps last season (TE2 by snap count) but has been surpassed on the depth chart by undrafted free agent Brevyn Spann-Ford, who played only 300 snaps but has shown superior development as both a blocker and receiver. Schoonmaker now finds himself third on the depth chart at best, with undrafted rookie Michael Trigg also making plays in training camp and potentially pushing him further down or off the roster entirely. The Cowboys typically carry only three tight ends, putting his roster spot in genuine jeopardy.
