Stetson Bennett's preseason status remains undetermined as of McVay's announcement, but if he is declared the backup to Matthew Stafford, he is unlikely to see the field at all. This represents a dramatic change from Bennett's recent history: he played basically every snap at quarterback over the last two preseasons when he was QB3, while backup Jimmy Garoppolo was rested. Bennett's potential benching in preseason would serve as an endorsement of his status as the official QB2.
