Daily Norseman on Kyler Murray
From the article
in the competition between Kyler Murray and J.J. McCarthy today, the defense won. Neither quarterback completed anything particularly impressive today...Murray has the only successful over-the-top throws against the defense- both against the first-team defense- in Wednesday's full-pad practice.
STACKED’s take
Murray's downfield attempts incomplete against elite Vikings pass defense in camp drills.
In 11-on-11 team drills against the Vikings defense (which ranked third in DVOA and allowed the second-fewest passing yards and touchdowns last year), Murray completed mostly short passes under ten yards. He had a nice deep back-shoulder pass to Jauan Jennings that fell incomplete due to Jennings' footwork, a deep attempt to Justin Jefferson that fell incomplete (though flagged for DPI/holding on the defense), and an intermediate pass broken up by Charles Demmings. Murray has been the only quarterback to complete successful over-the-top throws against the first-team defense in full-pad practice, and he made more downfield attempts than McCarthy, though overall the Vikings defense limited both quarterbacks to short completions.
