Former NFL defensive lineman Leger Douzable suggested that Patrick Mahomes should not play in Week 1 and possibly Week 2 of the 2026 season, recommending the Chiefs sign or trade for Justin Fields to start early in the season until Mahomes is fully healthy. Douzable's reasoning: given Mahomes' recent contract extension, the team should not risk putting him on the field if he is not 100% healthy.
